MIFA’s Something Good in Memphis campaign is designed to celebrate those who make Memphis better, whether it’s the stranger who helps change your flat tire in the rain or a human services pioneer who changes the lives of a hundred poor Memphians. Sometimes people tend to focus on the bad and forget the good, but we see reminders of the good in Memphis every day!

 

Nominating is quick and easy – just fill out our simple form! Nominate friends, neighbors,and colleagues whose daily efforts or remarkable deeds embody the spirit of positive action in our community.Thank you for being a part of the good in Memphis!

Mary Elizabeth Warner helped Henry get home!

Mary Elizabeth Warner and her son Bishop found my dog who had gotten out of the yard. They called and kept him safe until I could get there to round him up. Bishop is three years old and was so proud that he "founded Henry." Nominated by Margaret Craddock.

Shun & Mary Abram make a difference in Binghampton!

Shun and Mary have made a difference in the Binghampton community by starting Binghampton Community Church. They are trying to bring a message of peace and share the good word with others. The Abrams are also dedicated to going on missions outside the U.S. to minister to others. They are definitely something good in Memphis! Nominated by Rebecca Jaffe.

Caroline Orr is a role model!

  Sixteen-year-old Caroline works tirelessly with kids from diverse backgrounds. She and her brother, Wilson, recently hosted an Easter Egg Hunt at the Lester Community Center for 300 neighborhood kids. She has offered her time and her labor on many missions to Africa and South America. There are not enough hours in the day for her to complete all the tasks she undertakes, but she somehow does it, and all without want of recognition. I feel fortunate for just having witnessed...

Reginald Johnson helps young men succeed

Reginald Johnson believes every young man can excel and reach his highest potential. He is dedicated to empowering and encouraging young men in this city to become community leaders. Hubbard's Hardware sweats the small stuff

A bolt on the brakes of my daughter's wheelchair came off, and the brakes wouldn't work. The wheelchair people replaced it, but the new one quickly fell off too. I took the chair to Hubbard's Hardware (4321 Summer Ave., 38122), where an employee spent at least 20 minutes finding just the right thing and installing it for me. The charge was less than $2, and the bolt stayed put. It pays to shop at locally owned establishments! This kind of service just doesn't exist at the big box stores. ...

Betty Welch is Something Good to her neighbors!

Betty watches over all her elderly neighbors. She makes sure their papers are on their porch, garbage cans are down in front of their houses on garbage day and checks on them on a regular basis each day. She is something Good in Memphis. Nominated by Nancy Martin.

Super people at Super D on Poplar

Harold, Felicia, and Helga, and the rest of the dedicated staff at Super D on Poplar, have been like family to me and all their customers for many years. Besides taking care of our medication needs, they've always been there to answer questions, solve problems, laugh with us, and care about our lives and our health.
