MIFA’s Something Good in Memphis campaign is designed to celebrate those who make Memphis better, whether it’s the stranger who helps change your flat tire in the rain or a human services pioneer who changes the lives of a hundred poor Memphians. Sometimes people tend to focus on the bad and forget the good, but we see reminders of the good in Memphis every day!

Mary Elizabeth Warner and her son Bishop found my dog who had gotten out of the yard. They called and kept him safe until I could get there to round him up. Bishop is three years old and was so proud that he "founded Henry." Nominated by Margaret Craddock.

Shun and Mary have made a difference in the Binghampton community by starting Binghampton Community Church. They are trying to bring a message of peace and share the good word with others. Sixteen-year-old Caroline works tirelessly with kids from diverse backgrounds. She and her brother, Wilson, recently hosted an Easter Egg Hunt at the Lester Community Center for 300 neighborhood kids. She has offered her time and her labor on many missions to Africa and South America. There are not enough hours in the day for her to complete all the tasks she undertakes, but she somehow does it, and all without want of recognition. I feel fortunate for just having witnessed...

A bolt on the brakes of my daughter's wheelchair came off, and the brakes wouldn't work. The wheelchair people replaced it, but the new one quickly fell off too. I took the chair to Hubbard's Hardware (4321 Summer Ave., 38122), where an employee spent at least 20 minutes finding just the right thing and installing it for me. The charge was less than $2, and the bolt stayed put. It pays to shop at locally owned establishments! This kind of service just doesn't exist at the big box stores. ...

Harold, Felicia, and Helga, and the rest of the dedicated staff at Super D on Poplar, have been like family to me and all their customers for many years. Besides taking care of our medication needs, they've always been there to answer questions, solve problems, laugh with us, and care about our lives and our health.
